(Alhoewel ik me natuurlijk liever thuis ontspan.)

Sex sells...but why?

Carnaval has started. For those you you who know it's festival of the fools right before the catholic period of fasting. Now I'm not catholic....but then again neither are most people that celebrate it.

As I'm sitting here at work next to the window in central Eindhoven I see countless people pass me by in silly clothing, Cuckatoos, Eeore (the donkey...don't know how to spell his name) and people that went for a general an silly look with lot's and LOT's of flashy colours, feathers etc.
Carnaval is also know for a few other things.
1 Alcohol, (beer but soo much of it that people don't know how much they've had)People get WAY too drunk.
2 Sex It's deemed that if you cheat on your partner during this time it's unfortunate but hey...it happends so no harm done right? It was only carnaval afterall.
3 The insanely massive amount of people that get a flu afterwards.

Now those people that indulge in sex with strangers during this time have got me thinking. Why does society focus on sex that much? I mean I just don't get it. It's a fun activity.....but for me if I didn't love my wife as much as I do I could think of better ones.

And yet everyone is always talking about it. Just the other day I was listening to the radio to...uhm....(don't laugh) Rihanna. (You're laughing aren't you? STOP that. I'm trying to make a point here) and unlike her previously annyong song about a water reppellant device (Umbrella for those who didn't get it) I was actually quite enjoying the beat, rythm and even the lyrics for as much as I was paying attention. The song was called "Please don't stop the music".
Then I started listening to the song. The Chorus was pretty good. This girl sings about how she loves dancing, how she enjoys dancing with (probably) a guy.

Then comes the main part of the song. And ON with the sex theme.
She starts singing about what she'd like to do to this guy being not very graphic at all but letting imagination do most of the work. Same goes for almost anything in Hiphop or R&B that I've seen lately. The Dance scene is pretty much the same. They don't sing much...but when they do oh Boy....it's pretty detailed.
Seems to me that the only genre still safe is Rock in general....and even then that's not always true.
And we see it on TV all the time. It's on talkshows, in magazines, you name it you'll find sex there.

People argue: But it's a perfectly natural body function, perfectly normal.

Well....so's taking a crap....and that can be pretty damn enjoyable as well...especially when you've been holding it up for a while....
But you don't here me talking about that all the time either do you? I don't go around describing in detail what color it was, how I sat on the toilet, what I'd eaten the previous day that made my crap look like that. etc etc.

Point is. Sex is normal between consenting adults (I'd say don't do it unless you're married but hey...that's me) but please don't involve ME in your sexlife. I've pretty much got my hands full with me own without having to worry about yours....

Working out (why is it even called that?)

Yesterday I went to the Gym.

That's right. I went to the Gym, I did the unthinkable. I signed up for a gym ON PURPOSE and actually went there. On my own, for almost an hour and a half.

Now those that know me well might think: "He SOLD OUT!!!" Well......stuff you.....maybe I did.

But then again I'm getting fat because I can't rollerblade that often anymore, the gym was cheap, and it's right by my house. And last but not least...it wasn't all that bad.

Not as bad as I thought anyway. Sure....I don't know anyone who was there. And yes, being on those stupid cyclemachines does get a touch repetitive.

But on the other hand it does feel good to feel my muscles again and I did work up a nice sweat and it wasn't all that bad since I was listening to an excellent Radiohead album (In Rainbows).

So I'll go again, that's right. You heard me! I'll go again I said. And maybe I'll enjoy it a little more next time (no snippy lady telling me that I should've brought a towel...damn lady. If it's that important you shoul've put it up on the website).

And in the meantime I hope to get a little bit leaner again....and maybe some of the pants I bought when I was 22 will fit me again.

And if you're ever up for a race without moving I'm your guy. (I still think those machines are stupid....and I'd rather rollerblade but....the weather really sucks and it gets dark early and I've got all sorts of other lame excuses).

Oh yea...and Why is it called working OUT? I don't get it. I mean...it's not even outside or anything. It's about as much working IN as can be. Maybe I'll call it that from now on.

A big mess

Allright. Since the network at work is offline at the moment I thought I’d write down a few thoughts.

Next week is moving day. Now in most people that would spur them to action. My wife for instance packs 1 or 2 boxes everyday so we can move quicker next week. Yesterday we went to meet the people who’s house we’re buying. They’re packed all over the place and they have a week left.

But me? Oh no, I haven’t even gotten started. I’m one of those people that, when I was on my mission in Scotland, still had to pack the night before moving to a new area and sometimes even on the morning OF the move. I’m also, as you can probably imagine, one of those people that doesn’t pack very orderly but who knows where everything is regardless. Our house can be the biggest mess in the world and I’ll know where everything is…..until Guenevère cleans up that is. As soon as someone cleans up my world crashes down….. I’ll be looking for my keys, my wallet, my pocketknife, my book, my cd’s and anything else that I might need. As soon as someone cleans up I’m pretty much screwed.

Now I know what all you women are going to say: “If you cleaned it up in the first place then you’d know where it is AND Guenevère wouldn’t have to put it somewhere else.” And you’re right. But you see….somehow I just don’t work very well that way. I’ll give it another try though. If only for the sake of keeping Guenvère sane. Just don’t be severely disappointed if I fail. Most likey the scenario will be ass follows: The house will be cleaned up, things will look bright and shiny and nothing will be in the way or on the tables or anything. Then oneday we’ll be busy/have a meeting/have something planned after work. Slowly some things will start to appear on the sitting room table. Then things will start to appear on the dining room table because the next day will be a fully planned one as well. (Except that we didn’t plan in the cleaning of the house part) and within three days of that moment the house will be in such a state that we need a serious amount of courage just to get started on cleaning. And since we’ll be busy for at least a week….it’ll only get worse and an even greater amount of courage will be needed.

It’s terrible….but I’m hoping that in our next house (which is about 3 times larger than our appartement now) at least the mess will be more spread around….so we won’t notice very soon.

On the other hand that also means that even more courage to tackle that mess will be needed……

Damn, we’re screwed……………

We built this city (on rock and roooohooooooll)

That's right, we're building our own Rock and Roll city. Our band is finally getting it's act together.....and then one of our singers leaves the country for around a year.....which kind of sucks.

Lately we've been having rehearsals every week. I even bought a new amp (I think it's amazing....Guenevère thinks it was a lot of money) that allows me to actually make my guitar sound the way I want it to sound. It's a funky Line6 moddelling amp with cools flashy lights and buttons.

And we're actually writing music. I'm still figuring out how to get a proper recording of it but as soon as I do I'll get some of it on the internet.

We've even been asked to play 2 gigs.....nothing big and offcourse completely unpaid but we do it for the fun anyway.

Add to that the fact that I'm now stationed in Eindhoven (for the time) and that makes it so that I'm actually awake enough to practise when I get home.

Life is grand.....

And oh yeah...if I don't get around to it...Merry Christmas and a happy new year. Those who know me know that I'll probably forget to do cards or e-mails or whatever but I love you anyway.

Seems I'm travveling with the speed of sound.

Things go soooo fast. Lately people have been congratulating us with the expectance of our first child and my new job.

Now we're getting ready to purchase our very first piece of real-estate. That's right. We'll be buying a house sometime soon. We've agreed on the price, seen the house and now it's just a matter of paperwork. That means I'll be able to do (almost) anything to it that I want!! Want to break out a wall? Do it! (as soon as you're sure it doesn't make the house fall down). No problemo.

I'm pretty excited, we'll have more room in that house than we'll know what to do with. It's got 4 (!!!!) bedrooms! FOUR!! That as opposed to the 1 we have now. Plus they're ALL bigger than the one we have now. The living room is HUGE (well I think so anyway) and don't even get me started on storage space.

It's like we're getting better at "pretending to be grownups" all the time. I mean it still feels like we're pretending but we're just getting loads better at it lately. Kinda weird when you think about it. Makes me wonder if it was like that for my parents....and whether it's still kinda like that for them.

The next thing is ordering my lease car. I'm driving a Suzuki Swift at the moment. It's a funky little thing and I quite enjoy it but it's only supposed to be for a limited time. Pretty soon I've gotta order a leasecar. It'll probably be a Skoda Fabia....we testdrove it last saturday and it's a pretty nice ride.

Anyway...gotta get back to work now.

Planes TRAINS and loads of software....

So at the moment I'm fully employed. Eventually the financial world wasn't for me but I landed with a small but awesome company. Honestly I love these people.

I'm at the moment a "Test Specialist" or tester. It's a lot more fun than I thought at first. Turns out I'm pretty adept at it and it's fun hashing out how something should work and why it doesn't.

They even handed me a car!!! What kind of insane person gives me the key to a car!! Seriously!! They must be out of their mind!

Anyway at the moment I'm working with a project for the dutch railways (NS) and railway track planners (Prorail) on a piece of software, or at least the testing of it.

Also...the biggest news at the moment.....

I'm goin to be a father....for real!! God must be crazy as well. I have friends who're betting on how long it'll take before the child can ride rollerblades and quite a few of them think it'll be able to before it can walk!! (I might make it do that if only I could find a pair of blades size 0)

Kid's due to come beginning of March....it doesn't know what it's getting into...we'll have some fun with it anyway.

Life is like a box of chocolates....

So life goes on. I finally got rid of that horrible internship. After the first handed in failure I made another attempt last June and hooraah it passed...(barely it got a 6 but only because my coach and teacher on the subject knew that I could make up for it during the interview). So I got a 6 for the document and a 7 for the interview....now it's just a matter of bringing in those last three (one exam and two papers...very small ones) subjects.

But since life goes on and one needs money to make it go on (the supermarket doesn't hand out stuff for free afterall) I took up a parttime job while applying for a real one. So I spent 4 weeks doing dataprocessing for the local city hall in the financial administration department and right now I'm working at the archive in said city hall. Both jobs were(are) a real drag but that should only last for another few days.

Because tomorrow, tomorrow the entrance to the promised land might be entered. You see tomorrow I have a job interview for a REAL job....one for which they'll actually PAY me....with real money!!! not the minimum wage kind of salary.

You see during my crappy job I'd put my resumé on the internet. And the next day I got called by a recruiter. He was wondering if I'd ever considered a traineeship in the world of banking and insurance...

I told him that I hadn't but decided I should go and talk to the good man afterall. And so it is that tomorrow I'll step into the (borrowed from my parents) car all suited up and will have a serious conversation with serious people about a serious job that will end up getting me serious money (and a small car from what I understand) in the wonderfull world of personal banking.

We could use the money for sure. We'd like to buy a small house in the future (We're both kind of sick of our small appartement) somewhere in the area. Whether we will or not is all dependant on my interview tomorrow. So hey...no pressure right? Yeah...whatever.

Other than that life is just going on. Guenevère still works at her job with Dutz Eyewear and likes it a bit...she might get a proper contract as well (and with that a substantial raise). And I still rollerblade whenever I can. I also started on a new statue but since I don't have a place to work on it (the missus won't let me work on it in the livingroom coz it's too dusty and messy) it'll take a while before it's done I think.

Also I'm looking forward to young men's camp. It ought to be fun since we always play rough games. And although Guenevère and a few of the other leaders wives are coming along we'll get to acts like men in the wild with the boys. Making all sorts of bodily noises (which I'm not too good at) and showering very little and eating burnt food and playing with sharp objects and such.

Well, that's it for now tataa!!
12月11日

hobbies hobbies and more hobbies.

Now it seems lately that I take an interest in too many tings around me.

Some time ago (just over a year) I gave Guenevère a small statue of a big person giving a smaller person a massive bear hug. Now that sounds like a fun thing to do but on the other hand why a small statue.....wel you see I made the statue myself. About a month and a half before her birthday I'd though about giving her a statue and in looking for one that was suitable I thought: "Hey? Why not make the damn thing myself?" So I did. For about a month a was working on an eighteen kilo stone and managed to reduce it to a 3 kilo stone. I worked on it for an avarage of 2 hours a day. I even managed to keep the whole thing concealed from Guenevère. And believe me, the look on her face was more than worth it. And the look on her face when I answered her question about where I'd gotten it was even better.

Thing is...I really had fun making that thing. Soo much that I bought 3 more stones last week. None of them are quite as largen as the one I started on last year but still.

And now....I've found out that there's loads of other things I'd like to do with my hands. I'd like to forge blades, knives and such. I want to have a woodworking shop. Guenevère takes a deep sigh almost every time I tell her about something cool that I've seen somewhere because she KNOWS I'm tempted to buy as much material and equipment as I need to start doing it myself. My next project is a badger hair shaving brush with a handle made out of one of the stones that I bought...I don't KNOW that I can do it...I just think I can.

I just wish I had the time/money for all those other things: knives, blacksmithing, Fountain pens, hats, watches, jewelry etc etc...I think I should've studied something else. And it makes me a bit mad. Why did i have to be smart so that everyone told me NOT to work with my hands? I love working withmy hands!!!

Anyway...after the brush I might try assembling my own pocket knife. I saw a cheap kit that I should be able to do a www.knifekits.com. A little beginners set that isn't too expensive or something.

Anyway...if you're looking for a cheap oldskool razor that's useable in the meantime I'm your man.

Regards
Alexander

About blood, glue, crashes, sleep, trains and stupid computers.

Ok the past week has been an interesting one.

On monday we went rollerblading in Eindhoven's indoor skatepark. About an hour and a half into the skating session Guenevère fell and landed with her head on a metal edge. So we went over and checked out how she was (I was really close but didn't actually see her fall) after a few seconds Theo notices that blood is pooling at the back of her head where she's lying on the floor. We look and there's a big cut in the top of her head. Emergency room material we think and load her up to the car. As we're going there we notice that she's also lost her short term memory. She keeps asking me what day it is. When I answer it only takes about 2 minutes before she asks again. We get to the hospital and the doctor tells us she has a light concussion. She justs needs to chill for a few days. And she glues the cut so it can heal. She'll be fine...just some rest now.
I'm very happy that she's going to be ok. Although I have to say that I wasn't really worried. I simply felt that everything was going to be ok from the start. The only difficult thing really was the fact that I had to wake her up every hour on the first night. As if i needed any more sleep deprivation

Now yesterday was a day of disasters. I needed to be in Leeuwarden for my internship. There was some kind of seminar there. So I got on the train only to find out that there were all sorts of problems on that exact route that I needed to take. I ended up getting there but only after taking two hours more than I expected and coming at least 1,5 hours too late.

And on the way back my laptop crashed it's harddrive. I can't get to work anymore plus I  found out that quite a few hours of work on my internship had gotten lost since yesterday. I hate computers. Saw a quote from someone yesterday "computers are useless, they only come up with answers" I think it's fitting.

Four-eyes better than two?

The other day me and Guenevère were in the city centre looking for a pair of glasses for Guenevère. Hers were falling apart and she wanted to get her eyes checked again as well.
After having been in a few shops I ask one of the ladies working there how all of that eyes measuring equipment works. She tells me a little bit about it and then asks: Would you like to try it?
I..(in my innocence) answer:"Sure"
So we proceed and do some tests. Afterwards she improvises a pair of glasses out of different lenses just to see if it's about right and puts them on my face.

Lo and behold....I could see!!!! I never knew that I had a vision problem untill then. Things are soo much clearer through a pair of glasses. She told me that I have american football eyes. (The actual term escapes me right now). Meaning that I can see pretty clear but that it takes my eyes a lot of energy to make things seem that way. Glasses should help my eyes relax and less tired at the end of the day.

So I got myself a pair of goggles. (Sorry, no pictures yet I might attatch them later)

Also I heard that the Dave Matthews Band is coming to town in March...I might want to pull out my sleeping bag so I can buy tickets coming saturday. I was actually considering going to the states for it but it looks like I won't have to now....which is a good way to save money.

Married.....and now?

I can't believe that it's been soo long since I've posted anything on here. I'ts been absolutely ages!!!!

So let me start by mentioning for those that didn't know that Me and Guenevère have gotten married on July 6th last summer. It was a beautifull day, Guenevère looked gorgeous and we had a lot of fun. So many people came that we felt that we were doing them injustice by not having the time to sit down and talk with all of them but that simply couldn't. The civil Mariagge was nice, we took some wonderfull photo's (that I will put on here as soon as I get them in digital form) and loads of friends were there as well as a lot of family. After that we made a quick stop at the McDonalds (hey...we had to have lunch sometime) and on to the temple. The Temple is situated in Zoetermeer and the ceremony in there would seal our mariage for Time and all Eternity rather then just for this life. It was wonderfull. Some people even came along that couldn't come inside! (Roelof, you know who you are) we have some amazing friends and we love them dearly for coming along.
After the temple we went to Vlijmen where the reception/meal/party would be. I still can't believe how many people showed up for it. It was simply amazing!!! People came from as far away from Germany and England to be with us that day. (Simon and Lisa, you're my heroes!)
By the time we got home we were simply dead to the world. It felt like we'd been on our feet for 3 days instead of just one. But we will remember our wedding day as a good one.
All in all only 2 things could have gone better that day....ok, maybe three.
First of all on the way to the temple our Driver made a clumsy move and spilled BBQ sauce all over my coat. Now you might not think that's all that bad (at least it wasn't the wedding dress) but my suit was just as white as Guenevère's dress. Luckily I have a smart mother who managed to get the stain out at the temple and it was dry by the time we got to the reception.
Second we took a wrong turn coming back from the temple and ended up being half lost and half stuck in traffic. It was terrible, it was hot, and it lasted for hours. Guenevère was getting naseous and we'd had enough of that car by the time we got to the dinner.
Lastly Guenevère was feeling really ill near the end of the whole thing. We still enjoyed it but by the time we got home she had to seriously throw up before she felt any better.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining or anything. Just trying to give a real picture of the whole thing.

And now...I'm at another internship and Guenevère has started her Psychology studies. Life is good though. We enjoy each other. Guenevère helps me to become better every day and I hope I can at least do a little for her every now and then.
We still have some mishaps here and there. For instance our waterbed started to leak and I've been ill with the flu for at least a week. But it's not important. I'm pretty happy with the way things are going.

Now if I could just stop people around me from asking....:"So...when will there be a little one?" because that really gets on my nerves. But no matter, people will be people and ask silly things like that on a regular basis. It's just that they want to have something to ask you I guess, Like when you're single they ask you whether you have a girl...or when you'll be getting married...or when you'll finish school...it's just a part of life I guess.

ps...it's Guenevère's birthday today....so if you're in the neighbourhood this weekend come and pick up some cake....be sure to call first though.

Always on the run.

You know that Lenny Kravitz song where he sings "Always on the run!!!!"? I kinda feel like that lately. Travelling back and forth to my internship makes sure that I'm hardly ever home. And when I am I only have about 3 hours before bedtime. In between that, trying to rollerblade, fixing up my appt, and trying to show Guenevère that I love her (not because she demands it of me but because I enjoy showing her) my time is pretty much taken up.

Luckily my internship employers are very flexible people. They let me take 2 days off last week and I had a very long....very cool weekend.
One of the things that made it cool was that Guenevère had a week off school. So she could spend the whole week with me (when I wasn't working). We played around, did some things for our house, went rollerblading in Rotterdam for a day, she cut my hair and we went to a liberation day celebration in Wageningen. We had a great time.
The other thing that made it soooooo relaxing is that nothing was compulsory. I had NO appointments, NO meetings and nothing that was obligated. I enjoyed myself to the fullest. Just doing things that I WANTED instead of that I needed to do was wonderfull. Hopefully things will settle back to that way a little bit after our mariage and my internship.

Something else that was really cool was that I bought a set of straight razors from a guy on marktplaats.nl that turned out to be a very well known brand among the straightrazorplace community. I got them for cheap and hope to sell them for a killing on e-bay after I've restored them to sharp and shinyness. It'll take quite a bit of work though so I'll just call it wages.

Well, that's all for now...
love ya and leave ya.

A bed to sleep

Ok, so our little house (appartement really bu who cares) is coming along nicely. I even found a large waterbed somewhere and once it's filled up and I can overcome the fear of drowning in my sleep it'll be quite comfortable I think.
Time is really speeding along. I found out yesterday that it's only another 10 weeks today untill our weddingday. That's not very long at ALL. Things are coming along nicely, we got rings, witnesses, a place to party at, a birth certificate coming from the states and almost a bunch of invitations ready to go out. (turns out to be one of the most difficult things yet).
I'm excited, I'm in love, I'm a little bit worried (after all this will bring a whole new range of experiences with it) but most of all I'm happy.

And if you're not doing anything on Thursday the 6th of July mark that day to come to our celebration will you?
We'd enjoy seeing anyone with a friendly face on that day.

A face to shave

So recently I became fed up with having to buy new razorblades all the time. I found out that mr Gilette early last century was only trying to create a product that would have to be replaced on a regular basis. So I bought myself one of those "Straight Razor". You know, the kind that if you sneeze during shaving your nose does a Micheal Jackson.
And I have to admit, it's not too bad. To be fair I'm not very good at it right away. It turns out to be more of a skill that any other kind of shaving is. Last sunday in church one of my friends (who didn't know that I'd been trying this) asked me whether I'd had a fight with a cat. But the skill is developing and I actually enjoy it. It's a bit strange. I'd always hated shaving but now that it's been turned into a skill I enjoy it. Guenevère thinks I'm an idiot, waving something near my face that could remove my Adams Apple, but she thinks I'm an idiot for many reasons.
Another fun thing is that I finally bought a pair of skates that don't make me lose the feeling in my feet after half an hour of rolling and still give me enough ankle support not to break my ankles. I'm really quite happy  with that. I didn't even lose a lot of money trading them in because I could sell my old ones for a fair price and get the new ones secondhand (though still brandnew). So all in all things are looking up.

ps

And on a happy sidenote we finished painting our livingroom walls. It's a really nice colour green now that it's dried. A lot nicer than I thought it would be.

A place to live

Allright. Van nu af aan in het engels zodat mijn vrienden in Engeland en Amerika ed het ook kunnen lezen.

So last week we aquired the keys to our little appartement, much however need to be done bofore it's ready for us to move into when we get married in the summer. We started painting and something on the floor needs to be put in. We don't know what yet though. We've started painting, green, a little Limegreenish and I wonder what the result of a green living room will be. Some people might loathe the colours that we've been picking so far but I think it might look quite nice. And if not....there's always more paint.
We also dragged a closet up the stairs almost breaking our backs in the process. But now it's really there! Our first piece of furniture is in place. With many more to follow. I have quite a few things waiting for me at my parents house with no way to get them to our appartement so far. But we'll get there.
The coolest thing is that I've recieved my first powertool EVER!!! Ok, so it's not a very big one..a battery drill made by some unknown brand and will probably break down within a year or just after the warranty goes out, (You know what I'm talking about Simon) but it's mine and I got it from my girlfriend so I'm excited. I think it's a special thing when a guy gets his first powertool.
And last but not least I thought I'd share this with you because it made me laugh.

Subject: The Cave

Hi guys. We've all been putting in long hours but we've really come together as a group and I love that. Big thanks to Omar for putting up the poster that says "There is no I in team" as well as the one that says "Hang In There, Baby." That cat is hilarious. However, while we are fighting a jihad, we can't forget to take care of the cave. And frankly I have a few concerns.

First of all, while it's good to be concerned about cruise missiles, we should be even more concerned about the scorpions in our cave. Hey, you don't want to be stung and neither do I, so we need to sweep the cave daily. I've posted a sign-up sheet near the main cave opening.

Second, it's not often I make a video address but when I do, I'm trying to scare the most powerful country on earth, okay? That means that while we're taping, please do not ride your razor scooter in the background. Just while we're taping. Thanks.

Third point, and this is a touchy one. As you know, by edict, we're not supposed to shave our beards. But I need everyone to just think hygiene, especially after mealtime. We're all in this together.

Fourth: food. I bought a box of Wheaties recently, clearly wrote "Osama" on the front, and put it on the top shelf. Today, my Wheaties were gone. Consideration. That's all I'm saying.

Finally, we've heard that there may be American soldiers in disguise trying to infiltrate our ranks. I want to set up patrols to look for them. First patrol will be Omar, Muhammed, Abdul, Akbar, and Richard.

Love you lots,
Osama

Stagetijd

Jaja, het is weer eens zover. Stagetijd.
